The Chromatic Kings

The 'Chromatic Kings' are an ancient conglomerate of trans-dimensional warlords - powerful enough to have a Non-Aggression Treaty with the 'Dimensional Lords' themselves. In addition to immense multidimensional hordes, they have access to limited dimensional technology that allows them to enter and exit a finite number of related dimensional membranes. In their long long history, they have sent their forces to these planes, subjugating trillions of worlds. It is testimony to how insignificant Earth was that they never bothered to invade before now.

Each 'Chromatic King' is based in a region around the multiverse that connected to several 'adjacent' dimensions. A few of the dimensional regions overlap with the regions of other 'Chromatic Kings', creating a contest to control disputed dimensions. Because the Chromatic Kings can only enter a limited number of dimensions, and then only at specific 'contact points', their assaults on one another are confined by various 'bottlenecks.'

When Earth experienced its dimensional fracture, it opened random portals throughout the multiverse, including the regions of the various Chromatic Kings. When the Chromatic Kings sent their military to investigate these new portals, they discovered something extraordinary. There were 'nodes' on Earth that, if captured, would allow the Chromatic Kings to use their technology to enter ANY dimension at ANY location. The tactical and strategic value of these nodes is immense. And this was enough to effectively shatter their once tentative civilisation for a mad rush for Power Absolute.

The Chromatic Kings immediately sent their individual forces to capture the nodes and take control of Earth, and by virtue of that: the multiverse. However, each King is now directly competing with every other King. In addition, the natives of Earth and a large number of other visitors' similar intent went to war with one another and/or the forces of the Chromatic Kings. The planet has become rife with conflict - more so than ever - and no Node is safe from an attacking force. While the Chromatic Kings have enough technology and firepower to reduce the Earth to a dead husk, they have forced themselves to use great restraint: not least out of fear for destroying the very dimensional nodes they covet.

Instead, they are now playing the Long Game. Manipulating individuals behind the scenes, and engineering the downfall of their own brethren.

The Chromatic Kings are a patient, almost immortal, race.

They have plenty of time.

The Chromatic Kings (in general) are extra-dimensional beings bent on multi-dimensional conquest. The Earth has unique properties allowing them to use their limited Dimensional Travel technology in an unlimited way. However, they have entered some kind of odd agreement that says they will not directly war for Earth, but rather use existing Earth factions to acquire the coveted 'nodes' that they need. Each King agrees to only keep a small retinue of lieutenants and guards on Earth. They can 'advise' and 'supply' the native factions, but their direct involvement in warfare should be limited. (The best correlation would be the US and USSR during the Cold War. Each side would supply and support a native fighting faction, like the US support of Afghanistan during their conflict with the Soviet forces, or the US support of Iraq during their conflict with Iran, or the USSR and Chinese support of Korea and Vietnam.)

The Crimson King - The Crimson King has elected to support the Southern Alliance forces, promising them that once the nodes are controlled, the Earth will be protected from foreign involvement, and the Southern Alliance will be allowed undisputed control of Earth. (Recently lost control of the Crimson Node - see Chapter 2: The Crimson Tower)

The Azure King
- The Azure King is supporting the Techno Faction, via similar promises. He has taken a psi-stalker as his Lieutenant on Earth, securing her loyalty with something more than mere promises.

The Jade King - The Jade King was not vanquished after Thorn managed to fight off its attempt to recruit him by its lieutenant, Zheng Zu Yi. The Jade King was so outraged at Thorn's refusal that it sent Zheng back into the past at the moment of his hanging by the Chinese Communists in 1945 where it had first claimed him. With its plans destroyed, the Jade King retreated to plan another invasion on the Jade node.

The Obsidian King - (Chapter 12 : The Powers That Be) Current...

(more coming soon...)
